Bule Hora is a district located in the Guji Zone of the Oromia Region in Ethiopia. Known for its stunning highlands and lush environment, Bule Hora has the ideal topography, elevation, and climate to cultivate some of Ethiopia's most distinctive coffees. The Bule Hora woreda, a district similar to a municipality or county, is bordered by Uraga to the north, Dugda Dawa to the south, and Dilla in the Gedeo Zone to the west. Bule Hora is around 470 km from Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, and is home to a largely rural population, many of whom rely on coffee farming as a central part of their livelihood.

Coffee farmers in Bule Hora are typically small-scale landholders, often working plots that have been passed down for generations. Farms in this area produce coffee using traditional methods that honor the region’s natural ecosystem. Most coffee is grown under shade, amid native trees, and sold as ripe cherry to local washing stations, which help bring out each coffee’s distinct flavor profile. Alongside coffee, many farmers grow staple crops like enset (false banana) for subsistence.

Bule Hora's coffee-growing history is part of Ethiopia's rich heritage, with trees that are naturally occurring mixes of heirloom varietals, adapted to thrive in the high-altitude environment. The washing station in Bule Hora plays a crucial role in the community, providing essential processing services that enhance coffee quality and allow farmers to reach specialty markets.

The climate in Bule Hora is temperate and marked by a significant rainy season. Annual rainfall averages around 1,800 mm, with the heaviest rains falling from June to September. Average temperatures range between 17 and 22 degrees Celsius, creating ideal conditions for coffee cherries to mature slowly, resulting in a denser, more flavorful bean.
