This coffee is produced by smallholder farmers in the Buku kebele (village) and processed at the Buku Washing Station, operated by Esayas Bareso. Located in the Buku Abel village within the Guji zone, the washing station sits at an impressive 2,350 meters above sea level, one of the highest altitudes for coffee production.
Farmers in the area grow locally selected coffee varieties 74110, 74112, and 74158, developed in the 1970s by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC). After manual harvesting, cherries are carefully hand-sorted at the washing station before being dried on raised beds, where they are frequently turned to ensure even drying and achieve the ideal humidity level. Once dried, the coffee is hand-sorted again to ensure quality before being prepared for export.
