Led by Rodrigo Sánchez, the team at El Edén emphasizes both quality and consistency. Through a structured approach to fertilization, variety selection, pest and disease management, harvesting, and processing, they are able to produce coffee that meets high standards season after season.
Region: Huila, Colombia
Situated in southern Colombia where the Central and Eastern Andes converge, the Department of Huila is one of the country's most renowned coffee-producing regions. While the capital city of Neiva is characterized by its dry, desert-like climate, the coffee-growing areas farther south—especially around the town of Pitalito—feature lush, mountainous terrain ideal for specialty coffee.
Most farms in Huila are smallholder-owned, and over the past decade, producers have increasingly focused on quality-driven practices. Selective manual harvesting, careful processing, and meticulous post-harvest sorting have helped elevate the region’s reputation for excellence.
Support from Huila’s departmental coffee committee—the local branch of the national Colombian Coffee Growers Federation—has further bolstered this quality movement. Investments in farmer training, from agronomy to roasting, paired with a strong producer-driven culture, have made Huila a standout region for specialty coffee.
Beyond coffee, Huila holds deep historical significance. The San Agustín archaeological site, home to a wealth of pre-Colombian stone sculptures and artifacts, offers a profound glimpse into the region’s ancient heritage.
