Established in 2019, this farm in the Gesha region of Ethiopia is relatively under the radar compared to the widely recognized coffee-growing regions of Yirgacheffe and Guji. However, the varieties grown here tell a different story. The Gesha 1931 variety is globally celebrated as one of the highest-quality coffee varieties, while its sibling, the Gori Gesha variety, rivals it in excellence and holds the distinction of being one of the oldest known coffee varieties. This variety traces its origins to the Gori Gesha Forest, located just 20 minutes from the farm where this lot was produced.

Owned and operated by our export partner, this farm is uniquely positioned to meticulously manage both picking and processing techniques, which directly contribute to the exceptional quality found in the cup. The farm processes a wide range of coffee types, from anaerobic and carbonic maceration to traditional natural processes. This particular lot underwent carbonic maceration in a barrel for 96 hours before being dried on raised beds for 16 days, achieving the ideal moisture content.
The Gesha region’s warmer climate, compared to areas like Sidama, facilitates faster and more efficient drying for natural coffees. This contrasts with regions like Bensa, where extended drying times can delay shipments. Thanks to these favorable conditions, naturals from Gesha are exceptionally clean, often showcasing vibrant florals and citric notes.
